The 11th grade Parent Party is being planned for either December 1 or 2.
10th Grade/Amy Becker:
The 10th grade Parent Party already took place and was very successful with about 100 people in attendance. A long break is being planned.
9th Grade/Barbara Arison:
The 9th grade Parent Party, with over 60 families in attendance, already took place. A long break is being planned.
INTERNATIONAL DINNER/Terry Stoller (for Clare Paquelet):
All of the volunteers for this fun evening are in place, which will take place Friday, November 10 before the school play.
AFTERPROM/Nancy McGinty:
This year's Prom will be held on Saturday, May 5 at the Arcade for dinner. The AfterProm will take place at "The Pond," a facility on Washington Street in Bainbridge. The hours will be Midnight - 3:00 a.m. One of the hightlights will be the game "Broom Ball." Casino games will be available, but downplayed from previous years.
TREE SALE/Ed France, Colleen Goss:
325 trees have been ordered as well as 114 wreaths. They will be delivered November 29. Postcards will be mailed to the US community the Monday before the sale and signs will go up the following Sunday. It was suggested that other items be sold for those who don't celebrate Christmas, who want to participate in the sale. This subject will be revisited next year, since it is too late for this year's sale.
FACULTY APPRECIATION/ Terry Stoller:
Traditionally the US parents provide treats and thank you notes to the staff 4-5 times a year. Since we do not have a volunteer in charge of this effort this year, Terry asked the committee to step forth to make this happen. It was decided that each grade would take a turn to coordinate a season as follows: 12th Grade: Fall; 11th Grade: Spring; 10th Grade: Valentine's Day; 9th Grade; Winter holiday. Items are to be delivered to school in disposable containers with a hand-written note to the faculty/staff.
STRATEGIC PLANNING UPDATE/Dale Naylor:
The Town Hall Meetings were held and were well attended. The meetings proved to be helpful with enough people in attendance to get a fair sampling of opinions. The US community is being asked what 3 things to keep and 4 things to change in the future. A survey will be sent to all parents, faculty and students in grades 8-12. A copy will hopefully be sent to the USPA Executive Board prior to the mailing.
OTHER TOPICS/Terry Stoller:
The US/USPA Welcome Reception for Michael and Carolyn Obel-Omia will take place on November 17 at 5:30. This is the same evening as the 12th Grade Parent Party, but earlier. Senior parents are encouraged to attend both.
Thoughts on use of a short survey to query curfew and driving rules was discussd, with tallies shared at the January coffees. It was suggested to also share the different community curfew times.
The next USPA General Meeting is November 8.
